In 2020, we embarked on “encouragement research,” wherein we conduct collaborative research with young scholars at the Theatre Museum. In 2024, four projects were adopted, and a variety of research was conducted.

Encouragement Research Project

1. Research on Materials Related to Osanai Kaoru (Kumagai Tomoko)
2. Representations and Narratives of World War II in Postwar Japanese Theater: Toward a Special Exhibition at the Waseda University Theatre Museum in AY2025 (Kondo Tsugumi)
3. Cataloging Rare Materials on Chinese Performing Arts in the Theatre Museum Collection (Li Jiaqiao)
4. Research on Japanese Romantic Comedy Films before and during World War II (Ku Mina)

In each research project, researchers from within and outside the university collaborated to investigate and examine the vast and diverse materials of the Theatre Museum. Some of the results were presented at the Theatre Museum’s fall exhibition, “100 Years of Tsukiji Shogekijo: The 20th Century of shingeki” and other events
